Police have reportedly charged a man for alleged death threats and abusive messages sent to Knights flyer James Schiller after his side’s win over the Sea Eagles in Round 14.
Schiller and several Knights players took to Instagram to share the series of messages he received from one fan, which included telling him to “count your days”.
“I will f***ing end your life” the fan added, while another particularly explicit message ended with the user writing that they hoped Schiller would “choke and die”.

According to Code Sports, Lake Macquarie detectives began an investigation before a 20-year-old man was arrested on Friday.
He was charged with use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and granted conditional bail to appear at the Belmont Local Court on July 30.
The Knights referred the messages to the NRL Integrity Unit.
Newcastle were down 16-0 at halftime and were booed off by the club’s fans before coming from behind to secure a 26-22 win.

Knights coach Adam O’Brien also spoke of the abuse following that clash, with the Knights referring the messages to police on the same day.
“I want to protect them, so for him to go through that over a couple of errors (is terrible),” O’Brien said.
“It’s a game of footy and he’s got a family, so that’s partly the reason why you do you want to protect them.”
